Too Many Pixels

Finally finished painting and basing the Menoth warjacks from my starter set plus an old school Redeemer. They’ve been done for a couple of weeks, but haven’t had a chance to photograph them.

The next part of the project are my Errants, which have been put together and based and now await priming and painting. Am also part way through painting the Choir.

Hopefully I can find a way to get a game in Sydney the next month or so. I’ve played a few of games “solo” to learn some of the rules and interactions but it’s not quite the same. I’m enjoying just the painting and modelling aspect, but it would be nice to play a game or two.

So 18 weeks later I’ve finally finished or at least declared finished the Exemplar Cinerators I’d primed and started painting from the starter box. I’ve painted a few models for other games (which I’ll post soon), but these have been sitting around tainting me, with me working on them a bit here and there, but never really managing to finish them.

The Cinerators are definitely not my favourite models from the 2 player starter box. A lot of fiddly detail for someone who’s just getting back back to painting after literally half a lifetime. I don’t think I’ve done too badly with them for someone so out of practice.

I’ve learned a few things at least.  You can probably see the colours on the unit leader are a bit off. Need to make sure in future I’m painting the whole unit at once. Paint wise, I was using a mix of P3 (the Menoth Paint Set) and Game Color. The P3 pains seem pretty good, though I’m not really fond of the paint pots. The Game Color metallics however seem a little gluggy.

At least they’re now done, which leaves only one heavy and one light warjack remaining from the Menoth half of the starter box, both of which are almost complete. After that it’s the Choir, some Errants and a few solos and I should have a playable fully painted army. I definitely need a better system for painting the errants, the count is 13 models including the champion, standard bearer and Seneschal. 14 if you count Rupert Carvolo, who’s something of a defacto unit attachment.

Anyhow here’s to it being 1 week instead of 18 for next couple of Menoth models. Hopefully posting regularly will motivate me a bit more to get the army to completion.

It seems like a long time since I wrote that first post nearly 11 months ago. Life and geography somewhat of got in the way of my attempt to get back into the hobby. I seem to have spent an awful lot of time and energy following the hobby on the Internet, but not an awful lot of time doing anything.

I did get a good portion of the Menoth part of the Warmachine starter painted, though a lot of it needs some detail finishing and painting. I also grabbed additional models to make something of a larger list (Choir of Menoth, Exemplar Errants and a few solos and mercenary models). Unfortunately I think picking Menoth as faction to paint first may have worked against me from a complexity point of view getting back into things. I still haven’t managed to get a game though. Unfortunately most of my friends, if they’re into gaming at all are more of the board gaming type. Most of the beginner leagues of Warmachine I’ve found have been well out of my reach in Sydney, at least to attend on a regular basis.

Anyhow, here’s a couple of photos of what I’ve managed so far. Photos of the other models when they’re a little more finished.
